This week we received an email from a man who was able to fill in the gaps of when the Hilton sisters performed in Utah. How did he know? His grandfather was part of the act!
As the earlier picture suggested, the Hilton’s did perform in Salt Lake City. In fact, they performed several times! According to our new found friend Stephen, they actually performed in Salt Lake with the Great Wortham Shows in October 1916 – just a few months after they first arrived in America.
Once the Hilton’s entered the vaudeville circuit, they came back several times. Their trips to Salt Lake included:
- July 20-26, 1927 at the Pantages
- February 3-9, 1932 at the RKO Orpheum Plaza
- June 14-17 1940 at the Capitol
But it wasn’t just in Salt Lake City. They also played in Provo (at the Uinta Theatre June 12-13, 1940), Ogden (at the Paramount in 1940), Logan (in July 1927 and again in August 19-26, 1946 at the Lyric) and Brigham City (Sept 27-Oct 3, 1937 at the Roxy).
Stephen’s grandfather danced with them when they were here in 1932, and was Violet’s dance partner from 1929 through 1934.
We want to thank Stephen for sharing his grandfather’s history with us!
