“Kiss of the Spider Woman” Cast

Kenneth Wayne* (Molina)

Kenneth is delighted to make his Utah Rep debut in one of his favorite roles.  He was last seen on The Grand stage in 2016 as Dave Bukatinsky in The Full Monty. He has been seen on many Utah Stages from St. George to Park City. Favorite Roles include: Ablin/Zaza (La Cage aux Folles), Dave Bukatinsky (The Full Monty), Uncle Ernie (The Who’s Tommy), Horton the Elephant (Seussical: the Musical), Annas (Jesus Christ Superstar) with Egyptian Theater Co. Park City, UT, Frankie (Forever Plaid) with Hale Center Theater and Jackson Hole Performing Arts, Phil/Chief (Hercules: the Muse-ical) with DCL, Riff Raff (Rocky Horror Show) with EJG Productions,  Billis (South Pacific), Smee (Peter Pan) with Tuacahn Center for the Arts, Father (Children of Eden) Padre (Man of La Mancha) with The Grand Theater. Kenneth has traveled the Western Hemisphere with Disney Cruise Line and Holland America Line. He is currently working on his own cabaret act.

Juan Pereira (Valentin)

Dr. Juan-Héctor Pereira completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice and Opera at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2013. Previously to completing, he did a Master of Music at Michigan, and his Bachelor of Music at BYU. He currently teaches Commercial Voice at UVU, is Director of Choirs at American Preparatory Academy in Draper, continues to instruct and coach at The Hale Centre Theatre, especially throughout the Summer with the Youth Theatre Camps, and maintains his Private Vocal Studio in the South-end of the Salt Lake Valley. “This is by far the most challenging role I have ever played. There is so much satisfaction in portraying a role that there can be so few characteristics to derive from. In short, this would not be possible without the help and patience of Johnny, JayC, and Anne. I couldn’t do this with these folks. Finally, my family, for their almost unwavering support.”

Erin Royall Carlson (Spider Woman)

Erin is so pleased to return to the Utah Rep stage, after previously playing Cathy in The Last Five Years. Since that time she has appeared as Georgia Hendricks in Curtains, Brooke in Noises Off, Florence in Chess and Sandra Bloom in Big Fish. Her most recent role was at Hale Centre Theatre West Valley as Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which just concluded a few weeks ago. Other favorite roles include Fantine in Les Miserables, Eva Peron in Evita, Cassie in A Chorus Line, Velma Kelly in Chicago, Nellie Forbush in South Pacific, and the Witch in Into the Woods. Audition Advantage, a project she shares with Anne Puzey and Jeanne McGuire, is in its seventh year and has been an exciting and rewarding experience. “Much love and thanks to Reed, the love of my life, and my two precious little ones, Lily and Kasey.”

Karli Rose Lowry (Marta)

Karli Rose is pleased to mark Kiss of the Spider Woman as her fourth production with Utah Rep., first seen in RENT as Maureen, next in Cabaret as Texas/Gorilla, and most recently in Heathers as Veronica Sawyer. Selected credits include: Dale /5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche /Silver Summit Theatre Company, 35 MM/Good Company Theatre, Mrs. Lovett/Sweeney Todd/University of Utah, and Mazeppa/Gypsy/Dark Horse Theatre Company.  Karli studied Musical Theatre at the University of Utah, under the direction of Denny Berry. During the day she helps folks buy and sell Real Estate and is a certified Cat Lady.

Casey Matern (Mother)

Casey is thrilled to be back for her second production with Utah Rep. She was most recently seen in last season’s A Little Night Music as Petra. Casey is a face seen on stage all over the valley. A few favorite roles are Roz Keith in 9 to 5 The Musical, The Witch in Into the Woods, Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical, and The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods. When not belting her face off onstage, Casey is a stay at home mom to 4 insanely amazing children and small business owner. She credits all of her success in life to her husband and children and their support. Many thanks to the production team for this amazing opportunity.

Alvaro Cortez (Prisoner/Warden)

Alvaro Cortez is a Freshman at Westminster College pursuing a BFA in Theatre Performance at Westminster College. Alvaro got his passion for the theatre on his Junior year from Hillcrest High School’s Theatre Department, where he is a proud graduate from. He has had the privilege to portray George Lewis (Once in a Lifetime), Don Pedro (Much Ado About Nothing), and has been a proud ensemble member for Big River, In the Heights, and Emperor and the Galilean.

Derek Green (Prisoner/Gabriel)

Derek is so excited to be making his debut with Utah Repertory Theater Company, especially in such a dark and phenomenal show! Derek has been acting since he could talk, and considers the stage his second home. Some of his favorite roles include Lord Farquaad in Shrek: The Musical, Terpsicore in Xanadu: The Musical, Le Fou in Beauty and the Beast, Lead Ancestor in Addams Family: The Musical, Mike/Ensemble in White Christmas, and many more! Derek feels honored to be among a cast of such talented individuals! He hopes that this show deeply resonates with you as much as it does with him. “A thousand thank yous to the incredible production team for giving me a role unlike anything I have ever played before! As a fan of all things dark and dreary, this is a dream-come-true!”

Andrew Taula (Prisoner/Estaban)

Andrew is Ecstatic to finally be performing with Utah Repertory Theater. He was last seen on stage as Bernardo in West Side Story. He is excited to be part of this beautiful show and to work with such a talented and hardworking cast and production team. Andrew’s favorite show’s he has been in include: Rent, Aida, Once on This Island, Secret Garden, Grease, The Who’s Tommy, Brigadoon, and Man of La Mancha. “I would like to thank my loving family and friends for all their love, support and putting up with me and my shenanigans. Now sit back and let us pull you in to our story. Remember to live life with no regrets and to keep smiling.”

Jaime Fuentes (Prisoner/Marcos)

Jaime is happy to be working with Utah Repertory Theater Company for the first time. Jaime is a Behavioral Specialist with Utah Youth Village. He earned his degree in International Studies and Economics at Ohio Wesleyan University and will soon be leaving Utah to pursue graduate studies. Other credits include Fiddler on the Roof and It Happened One Christmas (Pioneer Theatre Company), The Full Monty (The Grand Theatre), West Side Story (Ziegfeld Theater), Tarzan (Disney Cruise Lines), and a company member with Odyssey Dance Theatre. Happy Birthday my Sam!

Jared Tuckett (Prisoner/Amnesty International Observer)

Jared has been seen countless times on the Utah Rep stage and is excited to be back once again for Spider Woman. Past shows include BARE, Rabbit Hole, Cabaret, and Heathers: The Musical. He will also be performing at Lagoon this summer. Enjoy the show.



Eric Christian Lash (Prisoner/Aurelio)

After taking a brief hiatus for school, Eric is thrilled to return to the stage for this incredible production. He has performed with several local theater companies including Hale Centre Theatre and The Grand Theatre. Among his favorite roles are “Tony” in West Side Story and “Friedrich” in The Sound of Music. Eric is a senior at the University of Utah pursuing degrees in Psychology, Theatre, and Chemistry. He would like to thank his friends and family for their continued support in all of his hopes and dreams.

Abel Benitez (Prisoner)

Abel is excited to make his theatrical debut for the first time in Salt Lake City with Utah Repertory Theater! An apprentice with Visceral Dance Chicago, IL under the jurisdiction of Nick Pupillio and a graduate from The Young Americans College of Performing Arts Corona, California; professionally dance training with Robyn Brawley (Australian Ballet; Royal Swedish Ballet) where he served as performer and teacher touring internationally across the US, Japan and Canada. He is a graduate of the Professional Actors Workshop with Lance Williams and contracted with Urban Talent Management, SLC. Previous theater credits include; Oklahoma!Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and High School Musical on Stage! as Ryan Evans. Abel is a native Spanish speaker from Asuncion, Paraguay and an avid rock climber who enjoys hiking the Utah mountains. Shout out to Ma y Pa, his brothers and Will & John; Enjoy the show!

Bryan Andrews (Prisoner)

Bryan Andrews is thrilled to be performing with Utah Rep for the first time! He is a former Weber State University student and will continue to pursue his passion of performing. Previous roles include Baby John (West Side Story), Flotsom (The Little Mermaid), Chantal (La Cage aux Folles) and Franz in the Utah premier of Rock Of Ages. He’d like to thank his friends and family for their support and Utah Rep’s production team for this opportunity! Coulson Bingham (Prisoner)

Coulson began performing at the age of 9 when he was invited to be in a collegiate touring performance for the University of Utah. 10 years later, he has been seen in over 40 shows including Catch Me If You Can (HCTO), Big River (HCT), The Fantasticks (Covey), The Drowsy Chaperone (UVU), and will be appearing in The Unsinkable Molly Brown this summer at Jackson Hole Playhouse in Wyoming.
